Eco-Afro Futures Initiative
Eco Afro Futures is Critical Ecology Lab's flagship public initiative—a growing movement that connects climate science, Afro-Indigenous knowledge, speculative fiction, and ethical technology to build new visions of planetary health.
Anchored by an annual summit in Oakland, California, Eco Afro Futures brings together scientists, artists, technologists, and community members to explore ecological futures through Afrofuturist frameworks. Now entering its third year, the initiative has expanded into three interconnected pillars:
The Summit A free, annual convening where participants experience abundance, direct access to experts, and the intersection of art and science—creating space for ideas that no single discipline could produce.
The Resource Hub A curated collection of cultural artifacts, books, films, and educational materials for educators, academics, and cultural commentators shaping how we think about planetary futures.
The Replicable Model A framework for communities and organizations worldwide to host their own Eco Afro Futures events—building a decentralized network of Black ecological imagination.
